Projects
At the Port of Gävle, the solutions of tomorrow are taking shape. Our projects pave the way for a more sustainable, accessible, and efficient logistics hub – in close collaboration with our partners.
Time Slot Gävle – More Efficient Port Calls and Lower Emissions
Time Slot Gävle is a digital scheduling system that allows vessels en route to the Port of Gävle to reduce speed during their sea voyage – significantly cutting both fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. Introduced in 2023 as part of the Energy Optimized Port Cluster 2030 program, it is a concrete example of how we and our partners are working together to transition toward a more sustainable transport system.
The system applies to vessel calls at the Energy Quay (Quay 27), where seven different terminals share quay access. By replacing the traditional first-come, first-served approach with allocated time slots, vessels benefit from better planning – and all stakeholders gain improved predictability.
Time Slot Gävle is managed via the Port Activity App, where ships can request a time slot up to 36 hours before reaching the port’s outer boundary. The app integrates real-time positioning data with scheduled times, enabling transparent communication and coordination between all parties involved.
The project has been developed in close collaboration with terminal operators, shipping lines, and other stakeholders at the Port of Gävle’s energy terminal – with support from the Swedish Energy Agency and in partnership with Tärntank, Preem, and VTI (Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute).
