With the third biggest container terminal in Sweden, 900 vessel calls every year and more than 500 people working within the port area, there’s a high priority of constantly improving Port of Gävle.
Our programs and projects
There are always ongoing projects within the port area, making sure we stay updated and relevant when it comes to sustainability, service and accessability. We want to make sure we have the necessary infrastructure that matches both furture demands regarding efficiancy and sustainability, but also our customers specific demands.
The infrastructure of the port includes everything from the fairway leading to Port of Gävle, to our quays, roads, railroads, pipelines och varoius digital solutions.
Many of the projects taking place in Port of Gävle is linked to our biggest program, Energy Optimized Port Cluster 2030, where one of the main goals is to make sure we work hard to reduce the CO2 reduction. Both within the actual port area, but also from the bigger transport system we are a part of.
These projects aims to make sure our infrastructure is up to future standards but also to make sure we develop the port as a hub for future energy sources.

Program: Energy optimized port cluster
Energy Optimized Port Cluster 2030 is a 10-year program with the main goal of the Gävle port cluster meeting the CO2 reduction and energy efficiency requirements at both national and county levels, which are in line with the Paris Agreement (the 1,5 degree objective). The program permeates Gävle Hamn AB’s operations. The basic idea is that Port of Gävle, as the largest hub for freight in Central Sweden, will help lower barriers and act as an enabler.

Ongoing projects
Time Slot Gävle
The Time Slot Gävle project aims to develop working methods and regulations for the port so that ships on their way to Gävle’s quays can choose to travel at a reduced speed.
Project of infrastructure
Two bigger project of infrastructure within the port area are planned for 2024.
A reinforcement of quay 17 and 19 is necesseray and a bigger land mass area is to be filled and prepared as a space to store various project loads in the future.
