Projects

There are always ongoing projects within the port, making sure we stay ahead when it comes to sustainability, service and accessability.

Time Slot Gävle

The Time Slot Gävle project aims to develop working methods and regulations for the port so that ships on their way to Gävle’s quays can choose to travel at a reduced speed. This allows vessels to save on fuel consumption, which spares the environment from large amounts of CO2 being emitted.

The project has the potential to be a game-changer in maritime transport and an important step toward a sustainable maritime transport system.

In addition to major environmental savings, it will mean that all stakeholders will have greater foresight when planning for ship arrivals.

Time Slot Gävle is supported by the Swedish Energy Agency and is carried out by Gävle Hamn AB, the shipping company Tärntank, the cargo owner Preem and VTI (Swedish Road and Transport Research Institute).

The project is a collaboration between the actors of port of Gävle´s energy terminal.

Reinforcement of quay 17 and 19

Quay 17 and 19 are the older parts of the container terminal and has been in use since 2005. After an inspection of the quays a suggestion of improvement was presented and approved. This project includes a reinforcement of the sheet pile as well as the erosion control. Therefore a lot of work during this project will take place below sea level.

In order to reduce the impact on traffic to the container terminal, the project is divided into two stages. Starting with one half of the quay, meaning we will still be able to handle vessels even though the project is underway.
The project starts in April and is expected to last until November 2024.

Preparation of a bigger land area

The lagoon is located farthest to the east inside the port area. The reason we call it “the lagoon” is because the landmass is an old seabed.

The plan of this project is to fill and prepare the 27 000 square meter big area to be used by our terminal operator Yilport.

When finished it will, among other things, be used as a location to store different project loads, such as wind turbine blades, before these are transported to their final destination.

The project begins in April and is expected to last throughout the year.
