Port of Gävle chooses to let ship-related fees remain unchanged during 2019, without an increase, with the ambition of being a competitive alternative to land transport.
The government’s maritime strategy states that “a transfer of goods from land to sea transport, contributes to reducing both the overall environmental impact of transport, as well as the congestion problem on land.” In order to achieve this, there needs to be competition neutrality between the various modes of transport.
The Swedish Maritime Administration’s activities should be financed through tax assets, as the Swedish Transport Administration today is financed through taxation.
“Through information and advocacy, we want to emphasize the importance of competition neutrality between the different modes of transport. At present, Port of Gävle chooses not to raise ship-related fees, hoping that in the long run it will increase the competitiveness of sea transport against land transport, “says Linda Astner, manager, Port Authority, Port of Gävle.
