It was the coldest day of the season so far, when cement company Schwenk officially opened their new terminal in Port of Gävle. Even though the Swedish winter showed its harsher side, the event was much appreciated by the visitors. Most of them from the south of Sweden.
Schwenk Sweden has its head office in Malmö, but origins from Germany. A family started it all back in 1847 and is now run by the fifth generation.
The company works consistently with sustainability, something Port of Gävle highly values when it comes to new establishments. Among other things, Schwenk was the first company in Sweden to launch a new environmentaly friendly cement on the market.
From the first contact between Port of Gävle and Schwenk was established, it only took two years to plan, design and build the entire terminal. It includes, among other things, a 45 meter high cistern that holds up to 8,000 cubic meters. The annual capacity for the terminal will be around 90,000 tonnes.
The first cement boat has already docked and unloaded at the also newly inaugurated quay 1.
