Experienced employee in new position

Since Port of Gävle has a high ambition in the area of sustainability, we have now chosen to add a new function that is responsible for sustainability and digital development.

“Port of Gävle wants to be a positive force in the transition of society to increased sustainability. We also believe it is important to stay at the forefront among ports, when it comes to digitalization. The purpose of the new function is for Port of Gävle to focus and develop in these areas, “says Fredrik Svanbom, CEO.

The position is new but is filled with an experiences employee that has worked at the port for many years – Linda Astner. Linda has worked with sustainability in various ways throughout her professional career. Before coming to port of Gävle, she worked as an environmental consultant and as an engineer in the chemical industry. She started working at Port of Gävle already in the fall of 2007, when she was hired to, among other things, develope the permit issues for upgrades of the fairway and the major port extension 2009-2014. Linda took up the role of Head of Safety and Environment in 2011 and since 2016 she has also been in charge of traffic control and tugboats, as Head of Port Authority.

“The last three years have been very exciting! We have built up the Port Authority and at the same time been involved in nationally recognized projects in the digital area,” says Linda.

The largest of these projects is the so-called Port Activity App, as we mentioned in earlier newsletters, a mobile application which may soon be in your smartphone, that Port of Gävle created together with the Swedish Maritime Administration and others, to eanable information sharing about a vessel call between different port operators. The purpose is to increase the efficiency of calls and to obtain environmental benefits. More information about it coming in the spring!

While Linda assumes the role of Sustainability Manager, the Port’s logistics developer, Niklas Hermansson, takes up the role of Head of the Traffic and Security Department (a new version of Linda´s former role as head of Port Authority). This role suits him very well as he has many years’ experience as a ship agent and also worked with traffic and shipping issues both in a regional and national perspective within the Swedish Transport Administration. We will get to know Niklas more closely this coming spring in upcoming news letters.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with incredibly competent colleagues,” says Linda. “And the best part is that I will continue to work with the same wonderful colleagues – but with full focus on the issues I am a little extra passionate about – sustainability and digital development.
