During Midsummer day, the first electric train arrived at Port of Gävle. The Swedish Transport Administration electrified the railway track from Gävle goods railway station to Port of Gävle.
Before the electrification, trains needed to enter Gävle Railway station to change from electric locomotive to a diesel locomotive before continuing to the port. The same procedure took place on the way back,
With the new direct connection, all trains are able to run directly to and from the port regardless of where they come from. The change from electric locomotives to diesel locomotives is no longer necessary. The direct connection will reduce costs for the port´s customers and shorten the transport time to the port with 10-15 minutes.
