Gävle Hamn AB’s current chemistry quay was built in the 1930s and the quay has since then undergone several renovations. During the most recent inspection, it was found that further renovations are not possible, but that a new quay adapted to today’s requirements needs to be built.
The contract was signed 15th of December with PEAB Anläggning. The construction of the new quay is expected to begin in January 2022 and be completed in October 2023. The total contract amount is estimated at SEK 89,450,000.
During the next year, piling work will be carried out, followed by concrete work and construction of quay decks, as well as pipe work and construction of pipelines. The contract also includes demolition of the existing quay, buildings, foundations etc. Dredging and demolition are planned for 2023.
The new quay will be placed in a slightly new location with new fire pump building for monitoring, new pipelines and a new bilge pumping station. In comparison with the old quay, it will be equipped with a far more efficient fire-fighting system through the modern cooling- and foam-cannons that the quay will be equipped with. In addition, Port of Gävle will be able to receive vessels with a draft of up to 9 meters, in contrast to the current depth which allows 8.6 m.
All work will be carried out during ongoing operations, as the current existing chemical quay must be in full operation and function throughout the contract.
