Yesterday, we had the great pleasure of welcoming Finland’s Ambassador, Maimo Henriksson, and her colleagues to Port of Gävle. The visit also included representatives from the City of Gävle, the Mid Sweden Chamber of Commerce, OX2, Svea Vind Offshore, Gävle Energi, Yilport Nordic, and Gävle Hamn AB. Finland’s Honorary Consul, Antti Vainio, also participated and hosted the visit. Together, we engaged in discussions on the energy transition and future opportunities for our region.
During the visit, our guests were given an overview of the port’s and Yilport Nordic’s operations. This was followed by an in-depth dialogue on how the energy supply affects both the development of industry and economic growth in our part of the country – and, by extension, jobs and welfare.
Shared Challenges and Opportunities
We share many common interests with Finland, particularly within the areas of industry and logistics. The Port of Gävle is a key link between our regions across the Baltic Sea, and we see great potential in continuing to exchange experiences and work together to find solutions that strengthen both competitiveness and sustainability.
Renewable electricity is a prerequisite for both industrial development and the ongoing electrification of the transport sector. At the Port of Gävle, we are also seeing a strong demand for renewable energy, not least in light of our future investments in shore power for vessels and the electrification of terminal operations. The energy issue is not only about technology – it is crucial for the development of society as a whole. Cross-border and multi-stakeholder cooperation is therefore particularly valuable as we face the challenge of securing tomorrow’s energy needs.
