At the end of April, Port of Gävle and Yilport Gävle hosted a project visit as part of the RISE initiative Offshore Wind Power: Business Development in Swedish Ports. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of Swedish ports to meet the growing needs of the offshore wind industry – and thereby contribute to the green energy transition.
During the visit, discussions focused on Port of Gävle’s potential role in the expanding offshore wind market. The day included presentations, roundtable discussions, and a joint review of the port’s capabilities as a logistics hub in the green transition.
“We see great potential in Port of Gävle’s role in the energy transition and look forward to continuing our collaboration with industry stakeholders and RISE to explore how we can contribute to a sustainable development of offshore wind,” says David Boman, Process Developer at Port of Gävle.
The project, led by RISE in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg, brings together a wide range of ports – from Trelleborg in the south to Gävle and Söderhamn along the east coast – along with leading actors in the wind power industry, such as Vattenfall, Eolus Vind, RWE, and Siemens Gamesa. The objective is to develop a methodology and business models that enable ports to meet industry needs in a sustainable and economically viable way.
Port of Gävle is one of ten participating ports and views the project as an important step in identifying new business opportunities linked to the ongoing energy transition.
