On Wednesday, Port of Gavle welcomed Minister of Climate and the Environment Romina Pourmokhtari (L), who visited to gain insight into the port’s environmental and sustainability initiatives. During the visit, discussions were held on the role of ports in the energy transition, and the minister was given an overview of ongoing and future investments in the port.
Port of Gavle is a key logistics hub for central Sweden and serves as an important link in the industrial value chain. Significant investments have been made in electric infrastructure for terminal operations as well as for ships, trains, and trucks within the port area, with additional initiatives planned. Active efforts are also underway to develop traffic management, tariffs, and digital tools to support more sustainable transport solutions and enable eco-driving from the previous port.
Port of Gavle is leading the initiative “Energy-Optimized Port Cluster” to facilitate the energy transition within the port area. By investing in electrification, smart energy systems, and sustainable logistics solutions, the port aims to contribute to national climate goals and develop as an energy hub. A key part of the strategy is dialogue and collaboration with the port’s partners and stakeholders to create a shared roadmap for the future.
The visit concluded with a discussion on how the government can collaborate with ports in Sweden to further strengthen the sustainable transition within maritime transport. Through cooperation between stakeholders and a clear strategy for sustainable development, Port of Gavle aims to continue driving the shift toward greener freight transport.
