Port of Gävle recently welcomed participants from the European project “Net Zero Cities Twinning Learning Programme Workshop #2 – Gävle/Vaasa.” Vaasa is Gävle’s twin city within the EU’s initiative for smart and climate-neutral cities, in which Gävle is one of 100 selected cities aiming to become climate-neutral by 2030.
The delegation from Vaasa – including representatives from the port and the municipality – visited Port of Gävle together with the EU’s Climate Neutrality Officer, the City of Gävle, and 3D Bridge for a day of knowledge exchange and dialogue on sustainable port solutions. During the visit, Port of Gävle presented its work with the Energy-Optimized Port Cluster, One Shore Power Supply for vessels, and Time Slot Gävle – a system enabling eco-driving in maritime transport. Several of these initiatives represent important steps toward a climate-neutral port. More information can be found on our website under Energy-Optimized Port Cluster.
“Hearing about other ports’ solutions for reducing carbon emissions and getting inspiration for our continued work is incredibly valuable,” says Elin Frisk, Environmental Specialist at Port of Gävle.
The visit sparked interesting and valuable discussions on climate transition, technological solutions, and the importance of sharing knowledge between cities to drive progress. The exchange between Gävle and Vaasa is part of the 18-month Twinning Learning Programme, in which cities across Europe learn from one another to reach the EU’s climate goals together.
We thank all participants for an inspiring visit and look forward to continued collaboration and joint development toward a climate-neutral Europe.
